Councelor Training and Leadership Overnight Camp (Ages 12 and up)
in Colfax, California with the staff of “The Wilderness Institute.” |
All potential and active counselors are required to attend this training.
Brad Childs, Director of the Wildnerness Institute in Colfax, California will host us for a week as he leads us in both the leadership training program he has been doing for years with Corporate and Service groups, along with wilderness survival skill training
a ropes course in his backyard that he facilitates year round.
We will camp out and cook our meals, prepare for the summer in a relaxed yet structured setting, and learn what is about to become an effective team in the beautiful wooded area.
Additionally, Ami Chen Mills, director of The Center for Sustainable Change, will facilitate a program based on the 3 Principles, a program she has used everywhere from inner city at-risk youth populations to corporate training as well.
Our CITs will be given an orientation similar to that given to our camp counselors. It will include classes in age characteristics, counseling techniques, group dynamics, organizational skills, basic first aid and CPR training and Sensory Integration . In addition, we will teach these young people how to effectively lead children in any setting. CIT’s are thirteen-sixteen-years-old and are working to become better leaders, with the end goal, becoming a camp counselor!
The leadership component of our program is designed to help teens develop leadership skills that will be useful throughout their lives. Identifying and achieving goals, improving communication and decision making skills, learning responsibility and helping others are some of the main objectives.
Middle School to College Students welcome
Those who excel in the training program can become counselors and earn a stipend for the summer.
